Brilliant, a man in his forties, unfortunately contracted leprosy as a young man when he lost some finger tips and toes and permanently lost his vision in one eye. He came to the eye clinic with a tiny glimmer of hope that after surgery he might be able to see light so he would know whether it was day or night. The scar tissue in his eye was so advanced that he was only a few months short of his second eye becoming incurably blind. Jeff knew that the chances were extremely low of being able to remove the scar tissue to restore the slightest vision, which he explained to Brilliant and his wife who had the courage to proceed with surgery. Jeff reluctantly performed the technically complex and difficult surgery which proceeded without complications.
The following day, when Brillant’s eye patch was removed, he blinked as the light penetrated his eye and he turned to his wife’s voice as she asked him if he could see light. Tears rolled down his cheeks as he said: “I CAN SEE YOU!!” They both cried and hugged each other.
He came back to the clinic with his family to say how grateful his relatives were because he could see them for the first time in five years.
